Now that the holiday season is behind us, now is the time to ask men to join our organization. It’s the time for giving and helping others and what better way to do this than as a Knight of Columbus. Tell them how our main principle is Charity and how our good works gave more than $175,000,000 in charity throughout the world last year alone.
I am very encouraged by our recent surge in Membership Applications. I pray that we keep this pace up. The Screening Committee has been very busy and they report, they are quality men, interested in improving the council, the Church, and enrich their faith. These are the men we need. Please continue to ask men of this caliber to join. Many will say no, but one may say yes which could bring great benefit to your council. Keep the fire going with new logs for the energy. I am very proud of this council and I know with the continued growth of these recent months, it will only get better.
I heard a statistic at the degree that makes a lot of sense and want to pass it on to you. Women who go to church and take their children, 17% percent of their children go to church as an adult. Men who go to church and take their family, 90% of their children go to church as an adult. Brothers, we are the backbone of our church. We need to stand up and encourage not only ourselves, but all men to join us and keep our faith alive. We need to also be active in our church so we show our children how important it is for our faith to survive.
Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity.
We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order.
During the rest of the year, we often “forget” to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn’t joined is because no one has asked him yet?
When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don’t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a “selling point” to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members.
This is not about social membership. This is Fraternal membership. A brotherhood that stands together to fight for our beliefs. Continue to ask every Catholic man you run into to join our organization and continue Father McGivney’s dream of strengthening our faith.
